ernst a. heiniger (1909-1993) is one of the great swiss photographers and filmmakers of his time. in the 1930s he met sergei eisenstein, later he worked for walt disney.
this book shows a collection of his photographic work, with texts by swiss writer albert ehrismann (1908-1998).
the graphic design is modern and swiss: akzidenz-grotesk for titles, sans-serif in one size and weight inside the book, page numbers asymmetrically placed lower right.
the photos range from spectacular shots from the swiss mountains, ...
... to the hard life in harlem, new york, to kids in post-war vienna. in the portrait below, the young girl seems to look across the page at the shrapnel-riddled pavement in vienna.
