a 1963 winner of the "most beautiful swiss books" award – published by helvetia, a swiss fire insurance company, to commemorate their 100th anniversary. on the white laminated cover, the words for "fire" in four languages are projected on top of each other in different shades of grey, ...
... and seem to separate vertically on the front end papers. if you compare this design to the halftitle page of story 17 you could almost guess that this book is related to karl gerstner and markus kutter. it is a product of their agency ggk, designed by konrad kessler.
the board wrappers and cloth spine are typically "basel" too: max grollimund also bound the books of stories 83, 84, 85.
the book explores the phenomenon of fire in all its different aspects: nature, industry, catastrophy, etc. there are impressive photographs and famous poems.
the photos are credited and commented at the end of each section, on pages demonstrating classic grid-based layout.
