this is a kunsthalle bern catalogue for an exhibtion of bernese painter fred stauffer (1892-1980), with an introductory text by kunsthalle director arnold rüdlinger (1919-1967).
the cover design is credited to bern-based graphic designer hans hartmann (1913-1992),
although stauffer was a figurative landscape painter, hartmann used an abstract, torn paper style design, maybe inspired by works of jean arp, leo leuppi (see story 26) or willem sandberg (see e.g. story 242).
as usual with kunsthalle bern catalogues of this era, on the back there is an ad for the f. gygi company (see also story 485 – but unusual: the ad is in the same style as the front cover!
