book (design) story #107
otl aicher:
in rotis
eigenverlag, rotis, 1987
printer: druckhaus maack, lüdenscheid
size: 30 x 22 cm
designer: hans neudecker
if you want to know more about otl aicher (1922-1991), inge aicher-scholl (1917-1998) and the amazing place in rotis (southern germany) were they lived and worked – this book is a good starting point.
great texts by mr. and mrs. aicher, their friends and coworkers, ...
... brilliant black and white photographs!
the design by hans neudecker (*1954) – btw: you learn something about neudecker's bike in the book... – is again very similar to the last few books (especially 105 and 106). the white dustjacket is protected by a photographic slipcase showing rotis in snow under a white sky.
interestingly, texts are mixed-case ... except the title – and otl aicher's (of course). below we see him working on the rotis typeface, ...
... and his wife inge aicher-scholl (sister of sophie and hans scholl who were executed for distrubuting anti-nazi leaflets in 1943) preparing a nettle soup in the kitchen described in book 104.
interestingly, texts are mixed-case ... except the title – and otl aicher's, of course.
