a very rare (although battered), fragile jacket for a rare book: "dawn / notes in germany" by heinrich regius, ...
... a pseudonym for max horkheimer (1895-1973), the famous german philosopher (of jewish descent) who left germany in the early 1930s.
the jacket design is credited to "bill, zürich": ...
... this early design by max bill (1908-1994) is quite spectacular in its use of narrow sansserif type in dynamically shrinking/growing sizes. the subtitle "notes..." is set in a script typeface suggesting handwritten notes.
the inside pages are done in a traditional typography.
