this swiss sking association yearbook for 1938 is remarkable for its design and full of interesting photos and ads.
the asymmetric title design and mix of contrasting typefaces shows an influence of tschichold's who lived, worked, and published in switzerland after 1933. the design is credited in the impressum: "werner allenbach, graphiker, bern" – however it was apparently architect werner allenbach's (1903-1975) wife frida (maya) allenbach-meier (1907-2002) who was responsible for many if not most of the graphic designs credited to him.
the great photo on left is credited to "allenbach swb ", too.
the photo series of a child learning to ski is by renowned swiss photographer paul senn.
in early times of skiing, the modern safety binding was not invented yet – resulting in complicated bone fractures ...
above on the left a nice ad by "steiner/heiniger" – i.e. the zurich-based studio of heiri steiner and ernst a. heiniger (also see story 81).
